McMahons Point

The transformation of this McMahons Point property was significant. The architects at Tribe Studio turned what was once a little dark house into a light filled contemporary home. Respecting the history of the site it was decided that some of the original materials would be kept and celebrated. As the kitchen opens up to the courtyard it was essential that the garden not only be a beautiful space to look onto and be in, but also blurred the lines of the old and the new. The clients wanted to have an outdoor space that connected them to the earth and made them feel they were surrounded by a soft calming garden. They wanted scent and diversity in the planting and also wanted to remember the gardens they had grown up with and the plants they loved, including Jasmine, Gardenia and Hydrangeas.

When the clients slide open the kitchen doors, their private little sanctuary relieves the pressure of everyday life more than they ever dreamed it would.
