This Marrickville garden was created with family in mind. Designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages, it was important that the layout provided open places for entertainment and play, as well as low-maintenance, functional areas. A mix of native and exotic plants were used to delineate the different spaces throughout the garden, including Anigozanthos flavidus ‘Landscape Lilac’, Lomandra ‘Katie Belles’, Babingtonia virgata ‘Dwarf’ and Westringia Aussie Box (Coastal rosemary).
The swimming pool gate was repositioned, with a set of limestone steps installed to redirect the flow of foot traffic and allow the pergola to function as a relaxing seating area, rather than a thoroughfare between house and pool.
Trachelospermum jasminoides (star jasmine) covers the boundary fences, providing privacy, texture and a beautiful fragrance throughout the garden, while gentle tufts of Casuarina ‘Cousin It’ were placed to melt into the ground below, softening the hard edges of the pool and speaking to the fluidity of the water.
A thriving, raised kitchen garden was constructed from reclaimed timber, providing a sunny space for pottering at the far end of the garden with an abundant range of fresh herbs such as Salvia officinalis (Sage) and Thymus vulgaris (Thyme) as well as a lush passionfruit vine to conceal the garden shed.
What the client says:
“Our new garden is green and lush, with beautiful plants, as well as a veggie patch and a passionfruit vine. Nicola, James and the rest of the team were always professional and lovely to deal with. They also had excellent knowledge of the plants, planting conditions and structures, and were always happy to answer questions and give advice about maintenance or repair. We love our new garden and are delighted to recommend Pepo.”
